Plastic Recycling

Hamilton Waste endeavours to recycle as much plastics from construction waste as possible preventing landfill and improving sustainability.

So what do we do with the plastic we recover?

Step 1 (Select): Bigger pieces of plastic are picked out mechanically by the grab from the skip waste prior to shredding. These pieces are predominantly HDPP and HDPE, usually items like  pipes and wheelie bins. Other smaller pieces are recovered by hand for further sorting. Mixed materials are moved to a sorting area.
Step 2 (Process): The plastics are baled. There are bales of PP bags, PP corex and LDPE film. Water pipe is sold separately.
Step 3 (Recycle): The plastics market is suppressed right now with many rigids being collected FOC, Hamilton still continue to recover and recycle to ensure diversion from landfill.
